Jack White - Sixteen Saltines
Ocak sonunda "Love Interruption"la solo albümün ilk sinyalini veren Jack White, seriye "Sixteen Saltines"le devam ediyor. Daha önce Saturday Night Live'da çaldığı şarkıyı, bugün youtube hesabında paylaşınca ben de eksik kalmayayım dedim. 23 Nisan'da yayınlanacak olan "Blunderbuss" isimli albüme artık gün sayabiliriz!
Çılgın bir Jack White hayranı olarak, The White Stripes başta olmak üzere içinde olduğu her işe saygım, sevgim sonsuzdur. The White Stripes - Eternal Songs
The White Stripes would like to announce that today, February 2nd, 2011, their band has officially ended and will make no further new recordings or perform live.
The reason is not due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues as both Meg and Jack are feeling fine and in good health.
It is for a myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve What is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way.
Meg and Jack want to thank every one of their fans and admirers for the incredible support they have given throughout the 13 plus years of the White Stripes’ intense and incredible career.

This is part of Jack and Meg's farewell to fans. That night when I read this I felt so sad but then I thought they did the best. They have 6 great albums and perfect career. They just leave this at the top of their career. No one can act like that because of egos, money or love of fame. They were so unique and they will always be. Like they said to us we can do whatever we want with it. As a White Stripes fan I can listen to them 30 years from now on, really. They officially ended but good music never ends.
The White Stripes 2 gün önce (Şubat 2 2011) sitelerinden yaptıkları açıklamada resmen ayrıldıklarını açıkladılar. Artık birlikte şarkı kaydetmeyeceklerini, bu ayrılığın sağlık nedenleri ya da müzikal anlaşmazlıklardan dolayı olmadığını söylemişler. Grubun sahip olduğu güzel geçmişi korumak adına böyle bir karar almışlar. Meg ve Jack "The White Stripes artık bize ait değil, o size ait ve onunla her ne istiyorsanız onu yapabilirsiniz. Sanatın ve müziğin güzelliği insanların istediği sürece onun yaşamasıdır." demişler.
Açıkçası bu vedayı okuduğumda çok üzüldüm çünkü The White Stripes benim en sevdiğim gruplar arasındadır. Daha önceki postlarımda da bunu sürekli söylemişimdir. Ama şöyle bir düşündüğümde aslında en iyisini yapmışlar dedim. Bu herkesin yapabileceği bir şey değil. Egolar, para veya ün sevdası yüzünden kariyerini mahveden gruplardan olmaktansa 6 şahane albüm ve süper bir kariyerden sonra en iyi yerde bırakmayı bildiler. Onların dediği gibi artık WS bize ait ve ne istersek yaparız, mesela ben muhtemelen bundan 30 yıl sonra bile WS şarkılarını dinliyor olacağım.
The White Stripes formed in 1997 in Detroit by Jack and Meg White. They were married in 1996 and divorced in 2000 but continue to make music together. After their 3rd studio album White Blood Cells they go beyond Detroit garage band and had awesome success in worldwide. Because of their soulful music, Jack's great talent and musical genius they earned many awards and had loyal fans. Jack influenced by blues and it makes his rock'n'roll music very touchy. They have dancefloor songs but I think they always good at ballads. Jack literally lives songs that he played and Meg always did her best at drums. Their live performances should be watch as a lesson for beginners and no doubt they'll always remembered as greatest rock bands of history.

Hisli müzikleri, Jack'ın enstrümanlardaki eşsiz başarısı, müzikal dehasıyla o albümden sonra çok büyük başarı ve sadık bir hayran kitlesi edindiler. Jack blues'dan besleniyor ve bunu müziğine çok etkileyici bir biçimde yansıtıyordu. The White Stripes'ın dans şarkıları olsa bile bence her zaman balladlarda da çok etkili oldular. Jack White şarkıları söylerken resmen o anı yaşıyor, sessiz sakin Meg'de davulunun her zaman hakkı veriyordu. Karen Elson'ı nasıl bilirsiniz? Yves Saint Laurent, Burberry, Armani, Celine, BCBG Max Azria gibi aklınıza gelebilecek bir sürü büyük firmanın yüzü olan, Karl Lagerfeld'e göre "Milenyumun Modeli" olan kızıl saçlı model olarak herhalde. Jack White'ın karısı ve 2 çocuk annesi ayrıca. Peki artık şarkı söylediğini hatta yeni bir albüm çıkardığını biliyor muydunuz? New York'ta yaşadığı sürede The Citizens Band üyesi olan Karen cover şarkılar söylemiş ve grubu için şarkı yazmıştı. Serge Gainsbourg için yapılan tribute albümde CatPower ile düet yapmış ve "Je t'aime... moi non plus" şarkısını coverlamışlardı. Sonunda o güzel sesini daha büyük kitlelere ulaştırmak için kocası Jack White'ın prodüktörlüğünde "The Ghost Who Walks" albümünü kaydetmiş. Karen böyle bir kocası olduğu için şanslı elbette. Bu arada yeri gelmişken sıkı bir Jack White hayranı olarak evlenebileceği en harika kadını bulduğunu düşünüyorum. Birbirine bu kadar yakışan çiftler nadir görülür. Neyse efendim, albüme gelirsek, Elson şarkıları çok severek ve çok içinden gelerek söylemiş, onu ilk dinleyişte bile hissediyorsunuz. Sözler gerçekten çok güzel, melodilerde öyle. Ki zaten işin içinde jack White olduğu için benim objektif olmam biraz zor, onun olduğu çoğu işi beğeniyorum çünkü. Albüme adını veren "The Ghost Who Walks" şu anlık favorim.
Bu albüm vesilesiyle Karen Elson grubu ve Jack White'la Vogue US Haziran sayısı için Annie Lebovitz'e poz vermişlerdi. Bu güzel editoryal ve Karen Elson'ın şarkılarıyla sizi baş başa bırakıyorum.
We all know Karen Elson as a face of many many brands like Yves Saint Laurent, Burberry, Armani, Celine, BCBG Max Azria etc. Karl Lagerfeld called her "Model of the Millenium". Also lovely Jack White's wife and mother of 2 kids. Do you now that she sings and has a brand new album? She was a member of a cabaret troupe The Citizens Band, wrote songs and made some covers. She sang "Je t'aime... moi non plus" with CatPower in Serge Gainsbourg tribute album. At last she has her own album produced by Jack White named "The Ghost Who Walks". Karen is lucky for has a husband like that. As a big fan of Jack White I have to say that he married with a perfect woman for him. They look fantastic together. Anyway when we back to album again, I think that Karen sang this songs so deeply and it feels so fresh and her voice touch to heart. Lyrics are great also melodies too. I'm not so objective when Jack White is in, cause I love all of his works. From songs, "The Ghost Who Walks" is my favorite at the moment.

Günün Festival Filmi
Müzikle sinemanın birleşimi beni her zaman büyüler. Bazen bir filmden çıkar ve hemen orada çalan şarkıları aramaya başlarsınız, filmde o derece etkisi olmuştur. Bazı filmler ise müziği konu edinir kendine. Hele o filmde çağımızın 3 farklı jenerasyonundan 3 iyi gitarist varsa o film bence tadından yenmez.
İstanbul Film Festivali kapsamında bu kez gittiğim film "It Might Get Loud(Gürültü Ustaları)".
Daha önceki postumda "Kuzey Işıkları Altında White Stripes"a gittiğimi anlatmıştım, onun verdiği zevkle bu filme de büyük bir heyecanla gittim, elektro gitar çalan kuzenimi de yanıma alarak tabii.
Jack White bir kereste parçasının üstünde en ilkel şekilde yapılabilecek gitarı yapıp slide çalıyor ve filmimiz harika bir başlangıç yapıyor.
Devamında Jimmy Page, The Edge ve Jack White bir araya gelerek gitar tecrübelerini paylaşıyorlar.
Jimmy Page için ne söylesek az. Rock'n'roll tarihini değiştiren şahane gitarist, söz yazarı ve besteci.
Lisede resim okuması, hep sanatla iç içe olması, mütevazi tavırları çok hoşuma gitti. Onun yaptıklarını bilmeden, hiç fikriniz olmadan o filme gitseniz bile ona saygı duyacağınızdan eminim.
Jimmy Page'den sonraki jenerasyonun filmdeki temsilcisi U2'dan The Edge'di. Açıkçası U2'yu pek sevdiğimi söyleyemem, filmi izledikten sonra da duyglarımda değişen birşey olmadı. The Edge'in olayı riff'ler ve efektler. Teknolojiden yararlanmayı sevdiğini o da söylüyor. Filmi izlerken Edge'in yerine Kirk Hammett ya da Tom Morello olsaydı diye düşündüm. Çıktığımızda aynı şeyi kuzenimde söyledi: "Edge'in olması çok gereksiz olmuş".
Bu iki büyük ve daha tecrübeli isime rağmen bence filmde Jack White eskiye olan saygısı, blues sevgisi ve duruşuyla daha ön plana çıkıyor. Müziğini yaparken zorlukları, uğraşmayı seviyor. Hala eski gitarlarını kullanıyor. Ruhunu gitarının tellerinin arasına sıkıştırıyor ve bizi White Stripes'la, The Raconteurs'la ve The Dead Weather'la mest etmeyi başarıyor.
60'lar, Led Zeppelin, rock gibi kavramlar metabolizmanızda bir etki yaratıyorsa, gidin ve bu filmi izleyin!
